“Guided by God”
In the 12th and 13th chapter of Exodus God institutes the Passover with a great amount of detail. It is clear from reading these two chapters that the Lord wanted the Israelites to realize that what they were about to partake in had a far more important spiritual application. In verses 17-21 gives us three ways God would continue to direct them. The first thing I notice geographically is that God did not lead them in the easiest way. The way of the Philistine’s was along the coast and would have been the quickest route to the promised land. The truth is God does not care about what is the quickest route in our life; He cares about what is the best route in our life. God lead them three ways:
- 19 “He guided them by faith”: They were to take with them the bones of Joseph. Joseph was a man of faith who made them promise over two hundred years prior, to take his bones with them when they left. For 200 years Joseph’s bones lay in a coffin above ground, speaking to the nation the way of faith!
- 20 “He guided them one step at a time”. They were to go from Succoth to the edge of the wilderness but God didn’t tell them anything more. We all want to know how our journey is going to turn out, but God says no, “I’m only going to show you this much today!” We are always camped at the edge of the wilderness, at that place of uncertainty, not knowing what life has for us the next day.
- 21“He Guided them by His visible presence.”: God was going to lead them by the “pillar of could by day and pillar of fire by night”. His presence was there 24 hours a day. It chapter 14:20 we are told that this same pillar that was light to Israel was darkness Egypt. Today we are given His word to guide us. You know what the acronym for the word Bible is? Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth!
Hey saints, God still guides us the same way today: By faith, one step at a time, through His word.
